Night at the museum

Director: Shawn Levy
Cast: Ben Stiller, Dick Van Dyke, Jake Cherry, Carla Gugino
Plot outline: Larry is in desperate need of a job, preferably one that impresses his son. After finding employment as the night guard at a museum, and spending his first night at work, he soon realises he's bit off more than he can handle.

I have an issue with Ben Stiller, don't know what it is, but I can't take the man. That probably clouded my judgement somewhat. As it is, I'm not going to say much about this, because there simply isn't much to say; it was pretty plain, kind of funny at times, a bit childish at others, not my type of movie anyway but it was okay. A superficial movie gets a superficial review.

El laberinto del fauno

Director: Guillermo del Toro
Cast: Ivana Baquero, Ariadna Gil, Maribel Verdú, Sergi López
Plot outline: Ofelia and her mother hide from the fascist government of Spain when Ofelia is led to a mysterious labyrinth by a fairy. There she meets a faun who gives her three tasks to complete before the full moon rises. Meanwhile, she has to hide her endeavours from her mother's husband, the strict capitán Vidal.

While this movie is surely intended for adults, it has an element of childisness which has nothing to do with the main character being a child. Instead, i think it is a result of the black-and-white description of the characters; either you are good, or you are bad. In reality, this is hardly ever the case. Me being a fan of the fantasy genre, howver, this didn't bother me all that much, and the movie reminded me very strongly of the Narnia chronicles. If you like them, you'll like this.

A second chance

I've decided to try and discipline myself into keeping this blog, after all... I hardly think anyone reads it anymore, but I guess this thing has come to sort of represent my tendency to drop my numerous projects as soon as I get bored with them. Well, I'm going to fight for this one. I have compromised, however, because I realise that if I want to reach my goal, I'll have to limit myself. So I'll only be posting reviews of books and movies from now on, possibly with the odd exception. This wiriting is mostly for my own sake, anyway, because unlike many other bloggers, I don't kid myself that anyone is actually interested in my ramblings.

Beaver out.

Lazy

When I got this blog, I told myself that it would be different, that I would nurse it and post almost every day and that it would be a medium for expression for me. Now I've just left it for weeks, as happens to almost evert account I open on whatever community, and this blog is now on the verge of being cut. My the same thing happened to my account at Sockerdricka, my Elfwood gallery, my nation at Nationstates and playahead, way back when I had that one. If I don't have a sudden urge to revive this blog, I'll probably let it go.
